Marquis Energy Fire: Crews Respond To Blaze In Hennepin; Thick Smoke Visible Across Area

Firefighters from several departments rushed to Marquis Energy in Hennepin, Illinois, Wednesday morning after reports of a structure fire at the chemical manufacturing plant. According to the Hennepin Fire Department’s Facebook post, crews were on the scene by 11:45 a.m., tackling a large blaze in the plant’s central maintenance building, which is housed in an older steel mill structure. Authorities have urged the public to keep roads clear for emergency vehicles.

Marquis Energy confirmed the fire involved its maintenance building but stated that the blaze has been contained and that all employees are safe. “The safety of our employees and community remains our top priority as we continue to work closely with first responders to manage the situation,” a company spokesperson said. Corn deliveries and ethanol production were not affected, as the incident did not occur at the ethanol facility.

Local news outlet 103.9 WLPO reported from the scene, sharing live updates and videos of thick smoke still rising from the plant as of 1 p.m. Fire crews from neighboring departments joined Hennepin’s firefighters to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures. Residents in the area were advised to avoid the vicinity until the situation is fully under control.

Marquis Energy produces renewable ethanol fuel and other biofuels, according to its website. The company has been working with first responders to ensure that the fire does not disrupt its ongoing operations. Officials continue to monitor the plant to prevent further incidents and investigate the cause of the fire. Updates regarding the plant, safety, and operations will be posted as they become available.
